Shekhar’s Test XI

10 March 2009 688 views 5 Comments AUTHOR: Shekhar

So its my turn now. After Gavaskar’s XI, Benaud’s XI, Warne’s XI, Bradman’s XI and so many other’s XI that have done the rounds in the world of cricket, I have decided to put down Shekhar’s Test XI.  The top XI test match players that I have seen playing ‘Live’ on T.V. or the stadium.  So apologies to the likes of  Sobers, Holding and Late Bradman, I have not seen you guys play ‘Live’ and hence will not consider you.  I hope there are no hard feeling.

The list below is in batting order.  Against each name in the bracket are players that I have considered for that position. The aim is pick 5 batsmen, 1 all rounder, 1 wicket keeper and 4 bowlers.

1. Virender Sehwag (Chris Gale, Saeed Anwar, Micheal Slater, Justin Langer)

2. Greame Smith (Marcus Trescothick,  Mathew Haydon)

3. Brian Lara (Rahul Dravid, Ricky Ponting, Mark Waugh, Mahila Jayewardene)

4. Sachin Tendulkar (Kidding me..)

5. Steve Waugh (Inzamam Ul Haq, Mohd. Azharudin, JP Dumminy, Chanderpaul)

6. Imran Khan (Jaques Kallis, Andrew Flintoff,  Kapil Dev)

7. Adam Gilchrist (Mark Boucher, Kumara Sangakara, Mahender Singh Dhoni, Andy Flower, Brendon McCullum)

8.  Shane Warne (Captain)

9. Wasim Akram (Zaheer Khan, Waqar Younis)

10. Courtly Ambrose (Courtney Walsh, Allan Donald, Fidel Edwards)

11. Glen McGrath (Shawn Pollock)

Impressive List but I would remove one quickie and add in another spinner in there
who, that is a question, maybe kumble …

pace headed by Wasim Glen & Imran Khan and spin by Warne & Kumble … Oh crap no matter what wicket, there is gonna be issues

But then again this only has 11 true all rounder in Imran but then again with the likes of Sachin Lara veeru & Greame Smith and the bowling line up i guess no need for all rounders.

Also what about good ol Javed Miandad ..

    10. Anil Kumble(Courtly Ambrose (Courtney Walsh, Allan Donald, Fidel Edwards)

I’d keep one spinner only. 2 leg spinners are a overkill. In fact I feel even warne will be wasted as a bowler cause no recent times batting line up can get pass Mcgrath, Ambrose and Akram ;)

Hmmm.. Javed Miandad was more suited to the one day cricket. He will probably make by ODI XI list.
