Dasvidanya

Dasvidanya, rusian for goodbye, is a nice and easy movie with few sweet and sad moments with enough intensity to put lump in your throat. Essentially hindi drama low budget movies are never really successful and this one seems to be no exception. People in India go to cinema’s to watch larger than life actors, over the top make up, heavenly locations, catchy songs and tons of emotion. A drama movie like Dasvidanya rely mainly on a good script and actors who are willing to pull every inch of their acting muscle to install conviction to their characters. Dasvidanya passed both these test. The script is interesting and the actors are magnificent.

Vinay Pathak is the lead actor in the movie. The man has come a long way from being a VJ for channel V. I have quite enjoyed his performances in movies like Khosla ka ghosla and Bheja Fry. Here he plays a mid 30 middle class man and pulls it off with consummate ease. The script is a rip off from a hollywood film but the execution is original. The movie maintains a constant pace from start to end, and I for one enjoyed it. SRK did many public appearances for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi insisting that the movie depicts heroism in a common man. After watching RNBDJ, I figured that he was lying. If ever there was a story of common man’s heroism, it is Vinay Pathak’s character in Dasvidanya.
